An independent initiative with a clear humanitarian purpose

Friends of Nunavummiut was created to help address some of the most urgent challenges facing families across Nunavut.

We focus on practical solutions for food insecurity, limited access to nutritious meals, expensive transportation and social isolation. Our approach combines community guidance, responsible innovation and private-sector partnerships.

We operate independently and do not rely on government program funding. This allows us to remain committed to our philosophy, our mission and the needs of Nunavummiut communities.

Our Mission

Improving health, nutrition and quality of life

Our mission is to help improve the wellbeing of Nunavummiut by developing sustainable programs that increase access to nutritious meals, reduce food waste and create greater opportunities for mobility and community connection.

Our Vision

A future with greater food access, dignity and opportunity

We envision a future where every Nunavummiut child has access to nutritious food, every family has greater choice and every community is supported through respectful and practical partnerships.

A practical response to urgent northern challenges

Nunavut communities face unique geographical and logistical challenges. Many communities cannot be reached by road, and food and essential supplies must often travel long distances by air or seasonal shipping.

As a result, nutritious food can be expensive or difficult to obtain, while heavily processed food may be more widely available. This can affect health, childhood development, education and overall family wellbeing.

Friends of Nunavummiut believes that innovative preservation, responsible partnerships and community-guided distribution can help create a new and sustainable approach.
